Quebec emergency departments reported an average capacity of 82.1% during the week of June 22 to June 28, 2026, based on 16,744 reported records collected from 103 emergency department installations across the province.

The figures show continued regional variation, with several regions reporting average capacity above 100% while others remained below the provincial average.

Provincial Overview

Across Quebec, emergency departments operated below full capacity on average during the reporting period. The provincial average was calculated as a record-weighted mean across all reporting facilities.

The highest regional average capacity was reported in Laval (https://erinfo.ca/en/qc/regions/13/laval) at 143.7%, followed by Lanaudière (https://erinfo.ca/en/qc/regions/14/lanaudiere) at 118.9%, Laurentides (https://erinfo.ca/en/qc/regions/15/laurentides) at 117.6%, and Montérégie (https://erinfo.ca/en/qc/regions/16/monteregie) at 112.9%.

The Montréal Region (https://erinfo.ca/en/qc/regions/6/montreal), home to the province's largest concentration of emergency departments, reported an average capacity of 107.4% during the week.

At the lower end of the regional range, Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine (https://erinfo.ca/en/qc/regions/11/gaspesie-iles-de-la-madeleine) reported the lowest regional average capacity at 49.5%.

Regional Highlights

The highest capacity reading reported anywhere in Quebec during the week was 300%, recorded at the Centre multiservices de santé et de services sociaux de la Minganie Emergency Department (https://erinfo.ca/en/qc/emergency-rooms/85/centre-multiservices-de-sante-et-de-services-sociaux-de-la-minganie) in Havre-Saint-Pierre (https://erinfo.ca/en/qc/cities/57/havre-saint-pierre), located in the Côte-Nord Region (https://erinfo.ca/en/qc/regions/9/cote-nord).

Several regions also reported elevated averages for patients remaining in emergency departments for extended periods. Laval averaged 12.8 patients waiting more than 24 hours, while Lanaudière averaged 11.2, Montréal 10.4, Montérégie 9.8, and Laurentides 8.4.
